Five BCPS Non-Traditional Schools Earn Commendable School Improvement Ratings

Florida Department Education

Broward County Public Schools (BCPS) is celebrating significant achievements among its non-traditional schools following the release of the Florida Department of Education's 2025/26 school grades and School Improvement Ratings.

Five non-traditional schools earned a "Commendable” rating:

  • Dave Thomas Education Center earned a Commendable rating for the third consecutive year.
  • Seagull School earned a Commendable rating for the second consecutive year.
  • Whiddon Rodgers Education Center achieved its first-ever Commendable rating.
  • Henry D. Perry Education Center and Bright Horizons improved their previous ratings to Commendable.

School Improvement Ratings are assigned to alternative and exceptional student education centers that choose to receive a school improvement rating instead of a traditional school grade. The ratings recognize schools for meeting state-established measures of student learning gains for English Language Arts (ELA) and/or Mathematics.

“We’re proud of our students, teachers, administrators and families for demonstrating the dedication, focus and tenacity it takes to achieve outstanding results,” said BCPS Superintendent Dr. Howard Hepburn. “Their efforts highlight the progress being made across the District and underscores our commitment to ensuring all students have access to high-quality educational opportunities and the support needed to thrive.”

These achievements build on the District’s continued academic success, as BCPS celebrates having earned an "A" rating from the state for the third consecutive year. State results also show 129 District-operated schools earned an "A" grade, 56 earned a "B" grade and 27 earned a "C" grade in the 2025/26 school year – with no "D" or "F" schools for the third consecutive year.
